The Sierra Leone Land Administration Project (SLLAP), in collaboration with the National Land Commission (NLC) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), today Monday May 18 2026 began a four‑day pre‑sensitization orientation for land committee members in Bekeh Loko Chiefdom.
The exercise initially targets land committees from Sanda Section. Over the following three days – Tuesday, 19 May through Thursday, 21 May 2026 – the orientation will be rolled out successively for land committees in Falaba Section, Kondato Section, and Sendugu Section.
The sessions are designed to prepare local land governance structures for the upcoming scale‑up and rollout of land mapping, recording, and registration of land rights. Key topics include the roles and responsibilities of Village Area Land Committees and Chiefdom Land Committees, grievance redress mechanisms, protection of women’s land rights, and the general background of Sierra Leone’s ongoing land reform process.
Facilitators from the NLC, SLLAP, and FAO are deploying interactive audio‑visual tools and participatory discussions to ensure that committee members are fully equipped to handle conflict resolution, support field teams, and uphold equitable land administration in their communities.
This pre‑sensitization mission follows similar successful orientations held earlier in Maforki chiefdoms. Radio discussion programs, street float parades with loudspeakers, and town crier announcements are also planned in Bekeh Loko to complement the direct training sessions ahead of the arrival of field teams.
The land mapping and registration scale‑up is part of SLLAP’s broader efforts to strengthen tenure security, reduce land disputes, and promote inclusive land governance across Sierra Leone.
