Port Loko District, Sierra Leone – The Customary Land Registration (CLR) process officially begins in Bekeh Loko Chiefdom with a Chiefdom Entry and Stakeholder Engagement Event held at the Paramount Chief’s Barray.
The gathering brought together the Paramount Chief, section and village chiefs, women and youth representatives, landowners, local authorities, Land Committee members, and other key stakeholders.
Representatives from the National Land Commission (NLC), the Sierra Leone Land Administration Project (SLLAP), and Medici Land Governance (MLG) delivered presentations outlining the CLR process, its objectives, timeline, and stakeholder responsibilities. Field teams were introduced, and community members were informed on what to expect during registration.
A key highlight was the signing of the Chiefdom Consent Form by the Paramount Chief, formally approving the NLC and its partners to undertake CLR activities in Bekeh Loko Chiefdom.
The session also included mapping of approximate chiefdom and section boundaries, followed by an interactive Q&A.
This Chiefdom Entry marks the official start of CLR field activities across four targeted sections: Falaba, Kondato, Sendugu, and Sanda, demonstrating strong commitment from traditional authorities and community members to a transparent, inclusive, and participatory land registration process.
